Writing Clear Documentation
Documentation works when it removes uncertainty. The best docs answer the next question before the reader has to ask it.
Lead With the Task
Start by explaining what the reader can do with the information, not just what the feature is called.
Use Concrete Examples
Examples show structure faster than abstract explanations.
Keep the Language Direct
Short, specific sentences are easier to scan and translate into action.
Document the Edge Cases
Most frustration comes from the things that only happen sometimes. Call those out clearly.
Update With the Product
Docs should change when the product changes. Outdated guidance causes more damage than missing guidance.
Final Rule
If someone can complete the task without opening a second tab, the documentation is doing its job.
